Description
A panorama of Colorado's highest Mountain Range, The Sawatch, captured from the summit of Mt. Zion. Views include Leadville, Turquoise Lake, and the Range from Hagerman Pass (11,925 ft) at the north end of Mt Massive (14,428ft) to Mt Columbia (14,080ft) near Buena Vista 40 miles to the south. In this scene, there are fourteen named and labeled peaks reaching over 14,000ft/4267m. Snowmass Mountain, on the far right, is located in the Elk Mountains Range west of the Sawatch Range. In addition the more well known 13,000+ ft peaks are labeled.
The elevations are from what is known as the NAVD88 or North America Vertical Datum of 1988. This is the standard datum in use for the contiguous United States, however, all the USGS topographic maps show elevations and contour lines using the National Geodetic Veritical Datum of 1929 (NGVD29). Depending on a peak's elevation, the differance between the two Datums if from 3 - 7 feet.
Location: Rocky Mountains of Colorado, USA.
